Show PLASTER Twelve years ago the Ncphl PlaateiS and Manufaolurlng company was organized or-ganized for the purpose of manufacturing manufactur-ing plaster of paris The company at once procured tllle lo a valuable patented gypsum claim and proceeded to build a plant for Us manufacture Into plaster The mountain of gypsum from whlclf the plaster is made towers above the surface over 1000 feet nigh its length is over 1200 feet and Us width over 600 feet How far it extends downward lo unknown and it will not be necessary to go below the surface for gypsum for a long time lo come as there is enough above the surface and without uncovering uncov-ering to last many many yeads The manufacturing plant is situated at the base of this gypsum mountain The plant vas small at first and inadequate inade-quate but at a cost of many thousands of dollars the company now has a plant ample for present purposes The machinery Is run by water power pow-er with an elghtyficfoot head and 120horse power No machinery is used in quarrying the gypsum It is so soft and free from grit that the holes for blasting are bored with augur bits Many tons are brought down with one good shot The quary 1s about three hundred feet from the mill lo where the gypsum gyp-sum IB conveyed on cars run by gravity i The gypsum is then put through the processes of crushing grinding heatIng heat-Ing boiling etc then sacked or bar reled and put in the warehouse which has a storage capacity of over five hundred hun-dred tons From the warehouse it la loaded directly in cars and shipped to the different markets The principal markets for thIs plaster are California Nevada Idaho Montana Oregon Washington and British Columbia as well as the local markets The output Is I over 220 cars annually and Is increasing In-creasing every year The company manufactures several kinds of plaster among them finishing plaster for hard walla wall plaster for whkh the company has a patent Is largely taking the place of lime mortar land plaster which Is used for fertilis ing grain plaster which Is used In elevators ele-vators for cleaning grain also an extra ex-tra quality of ilcntal plaster which la made by a special process All the different dif-ferent plasters are made from the same quality of gypsum but no two kinds goes through exactly the same process The mill is run the year round except during severe freezing weather then It ViS shut down on account of Ice The company gives steady employment to from tueniy to thirty menThe V men-The closing year 1901 has been the most successful In the history of he company The past year the company has made extensive Improvements to its plant In the way of building warehouses ware-houses and rock bins and the addition of new machinery The company met with many ad verses In the start but with determination determina-tion perseverance and experience it had overcome the many obstacles encountered encount-ered that il is now a complete success and a dividendpayer This gypsum mountain and plant are situated at the mouth of Salt Creek canyon one mile cost of Nephl City and directly on the line of the Sanpeto Valley runway This mountain of gypsum gyp-sum ban be seen from the cars of the Oregon Short Line railway as they np proach Nephl City from the north Tlie company Is a close corporation with James E Clinton as president J McCrnken vlccpreslden who with II S Young W J Adams and A Jensen Jen-sen make up tho board of directors ana J A Hyde secretary ond manager a V ADA2ISa |
