upon tic food they eat and tho homes they 1 o in J I this statement IB i accepted true and no thoughtful person will auQStlon Its truth all must admit thatja verb grave responsibility rests urtpn th homemaker and tho qucstlonfnt pace arises is the average youngwomaii prepared for tho responsibilities thai she will soon assume A little observation obser-vation convinces the questioner that the average young woman Is lamentably Ignorant jot tho practical affairs of the home I cannot be otherwise when sh has been In school the greater part of her life then teaches fills some business busi-ness position or Is occupied with social duties and pleasure until eriterlng a home of her own The young woman now finds that she Is Ignorant of th things she most needs to know Th mother could have taught her daughter the practical work of the home but the fact ermalns that she did not The number of young housekeepers Who bed come discouraged over their many failures fail-ures and dissatisfied with home lift proves that women do not learn housqg keeping instinctively any more than H man learns a business or profession In stlnctlvely I Is true that after a few years experience the young woman Jfj Intelligent and earnest overcomes tIll difficulties that her lock of training l caused her and learns through her mist takes to successfully manage a home But experience Is a dear teacher and much valuable material as well u Un5S and strength have been wasted Eveii when practical knowledge of home duties knowledse t ties has been acquired by experlcncR there Is i other knowledge that the up todato housekeeper should posses that cannot be acquired by experiencS Surely In 3 scientific ago no young woman wo-man can be regarded as educated who dos not understand the composition of l the food materials in common use I the home and the way In which the sustain the dally life of the famll The modern young woman should know the processes of preparation that foal materials pass through before they ap pear in the market and the ni live value of different foods so that < she may spend the money for fooUs that give the best nourishment and aDi not for those that merely give pleasure t the taste She must know what foods are liable to adulteration so Jjfe to be on her guard against the unscrupulous unscru-pulous advertiser ft Now comes the question how Is this knowledge so essential to successful homemaking to he obtained by the young woman whose circumstances take her Into the business world after she leaves school The answer Sin only be that she study household science sci-ence during her school days In high school college or university That this Is accepted as a wise solution of Jhc problem by leading educatois Is proven by the number of
