population of Utah by counties coun-ties and minor civil divisions accord ihs to the official count of the returns of the twelfth census taken as of June w 3 1000 Utah was organized as a Territory September 9 1S50 and admitted as a State January 4 J 1S96 Table 1 shows the population of Utah at each census from 1SSO to 1300 Inclusive together wltF the Increase by number and percent per-cent small portion of this Increase is duo to the fact that there were 2S4S Indians and 26 other persons or a total of 2S71 persons on Indian reservations etc In Utah who were specially enumerated enu-merated In 1S90 under the provisions of the census act but were not Included in the general population of the State at that census In 1S50 the population of the Territory which afterward became be-came the State was 11380 and during the ten years from 1S50 to I860 It increased In-creased to 40271 or 2539 per cent During the decade from 1860 to 3870 the population Increased at the rate of 1155 per cent and the growth of the State has bien by Increasing numbers for each of three succeeding decades I The population of Utah In 1000 Is more than twentyfour times as large as that given for ISO the year when Utah Avas organized as a Territory Tho total land surface of Utah Is approximately 82100 square miles the u average number of persons to the Sfjurtre mile at life censuses of 1890
