| Show D A M SOCIETY The above society gave us in October Octo-ber last a most pleasing and Instructive Instruct-ive fair ever held In Utah I was far in advance of any of Its predecessors in every respect The exhibits were very good and displayed In a most artistic ar-tistic manner The old style of mixing up inferior l exhibIts with those which had cost hundreds of dollars to place was abandoned and the result was a beautiful harmony In the main exposition exposi-tion building There were several exhibits ex-hibits in the main building at tjio last fair that would have been an ornament at the PanAmerican exhibition at Buffalo Buf-falo in fact it would be hard to improve im-prove upon them Each successive fair proves that the directors arc working on uptodate lines and understand their business and when they are In a position to add horse races to the other features of our State fairs Utah will be in the front rank in this respect a she Is in many others We hope our next State fair will be held at someplace some-place where a good race track can be had and that races will be given everyday every-day of the fair for there is probably no community of the size of Salt Lake that lakes more interest In good horses than the people of this city The socIety owns a race track at the old Agricultural Agricul-tural park which Is said to be one of the fastest halfmile tracks In America and unless a much better location for all purposes can be secured in lime for the fair of 1Q02 it would seem good business poll for the directors to make their permanent homo at the park True the city is not building sp rapidly in that direction as It Is to the south and southeast but with such exhibitions ex-hibitions as the society has been giving with the added attraction of the horse races there shold be no lack of patronage patron-age for the distance from town Is not great and the roads in the fall of tho year are good for driving There is one drawback to this location and the only one we know of and that is the crossing of so many railroad tracks but this before many years will no doubt be remedied l the railroads should be compelled to build viaducts not only for the protection of the traveling trav-eling public but for their own prolcc tecllon then this one objection to Agricultural Agri-cultural park will be removed One of the features of the last fair to be especially commended Is I the fine mineral display I was not alP It should have been but considering what has been done In the past In this direction direc-tion It was a great s ride In the right direction We are getting to be a great mineralproducing people and there should have 3 large permanent exhibit at their new Exposition building when It Is I erected this should be added to each year until every prominent mine In the State Is represented In this exhibit ex-hibit Our mineowners and managers managers should cooperate with the directors to bring about this result The liveslick exhibit was the best over made in this Slate and proves that our livestock men are all the time making great improvements in their herds by adding fine animals Imported from the East This exhibit was one that any State might well he proud of Considering what our farmers and market gardeners arc capable of doing the Agricultural exhibit was not near so good as It might have been Our farmers should wake up and see that their exhibits at our State fairs are larger and of peter material The fruit and flower exhibit were simply grand and drew forth many words of praise from the visitors The variety was larger and the quallly the very best Tho schools were well represented this year the educators having taken hold In tamest to make a good showIng show-Ing which is very gratifying to the people from all over the State who visited vis-ited fair the Exposition building during the CalI fairThe art exhibit was larger this year than usual but there were several pictures pic-tures upon the walls that were not up to the standard and the society would do well in the future to have n supervising super-vising committee t pass upon all pictures pic-tures as they are presented and cull out those that are unworthy of a place in the exhibit The womans department n usual Va very Interesting the exhibits were beautiful they were nicely arranged and attracted the attention of all the visitors Taken all in all it was n fair of which the State may bo Justly proud |
