Show SALT LAKE COUNTY SCHOOLS Probably at no time In the history of Utah were there more favorable conditions for the schools of Salt Lake county The large smelters railroads power plants etc contribute largely to tile maintenance of our schools In some districts they afford 75 per cent of the school revenue At present there are 127 teachers in the schools of the county outside of Salt Lake City Of these 51 arc male and females Of the males 41 and of the females GG were educated in Utah uany 01 our teachers are taking higher work In the lines offered In the Saturday course The following districts dis-tricts have added to their teaching corps since last year Districts 23 Union 25 Murray 2D Sugar 43 Bingham and 46 Granger one teacher teach-er and district 40 Farmers three teachers In order to properly grade their schools Draper Pleasant Green and Crescent furnish wagons to haul pupils to school Districts 30 Mill Creek and 31Mill Creek have erected new school buildings and districts 29 Sugar and 37 Big Cottonwood 13 Elngham and 4fi Granger have made alterations in their school buildings Districts 40 Farmers and 41 Sandy have a special teacher In music Evening schools parents meetings and courses of lectures have been instituted In-stituted in many of the districts and the trustees have provided a special teacher in drawing for the county AIL of the county schools are graded and all are following the State course of study Institute meetings are held every five Weeks At these meetings lectures are given by the ablest men and women of our State and the course of study Is freely discussed The subject of school libraries is meeting with much favor every district dis-trict In the county lias contributed to Us school library during the present school year and many of our districts are furnishing free textbooks to their pupils In the matten of sanitation the County Coun-ty Comlmssioners have shown a zealand zeal-and interest which arc commendable They have been vigilant in the matter of quarantine and have aided materially materi-ally In the matter of fumigation of school bulkllngs and as a result our schools have suffered but little from contagious diseases |
