MISS MAUD MAY BABCOCK Miss Maud May Babcock was born in East Worcester N Y and received her early education In tho public and high schoolo and later tho Lady Jane Grey school of BInghamton N Y In 1SSO she graduated from the national school of education with a degree later spent a year In New York studying with Alfred Ayer the I en owned Shakespearean scholar Mrs Eleanor Georgian of tho American Academy of Dramatic Arts and the late Steele Mackaye Later sho took the course in physical education at Harvard university while teaching voice culture and Delsarte under Dr I A Sargent of the Hemingway Hem-ingway gymnasium and completed her training with a course In medical gymnastics under Doctors Severs and Anderson of Yalo university In the fall of 1S92 she came to Utah and was the first woman to become a member of the Instructing force of the University Univer-sity of Utah and also the first to be given a professorship In that institution institu-tion Miss Babcock Is also trustee for the State School the Deaf Dumb and Blind I In regard to Miss Babcocks talent as a teacher hardly too much may be said In praise The many Salt Lake audiences who have had the pleas re k r y 3 C 4rI d 3iTiss Maud May Babcock of hearing her recite have been united In the opinion that her art as an clo outlonlst is well nigh perfect and the possession of this gift together with tho list of achievements and honors won by her readers makes Miss Bab cocka record a most enviable one
