Show Temple Square concert series announced By CHERIE HUBER The Temple Square Concert Series will present the University of Utah Wind Symphony Friday, Feb. 26 and the Western Colorado Chorale Saturday, Feb. 27. All performances will be in the Assembly Hall beginning at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are not required for the free concerts but admission is limited to those eight years and older. The University of Utah Wind Symphony will perform in concert conducted by Gregg I. Hanson, director of bands at the University of Utah. The concert will commence com-mence with a march medley and continue with pieces by Gounod, Debussy and William Schuman. John Phillip Sousa's "The Pathfinder Pathfin-der of Panama March" will also be on the program. On Saturday night the 25-member 25-member Western Colorado Chorale, Chor-ale, conducted by Monte Atkinson will perform with the musicians from the Grand Junction Symphony Sym-phony Orchestra. Their concert will include Heinrich Schutz "Magnificat" followed by American Amer-ican folk songs and spirituals including in-cluding "Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho." Monte Atkinson, a graduate of Utah State, is the founder of the Western Colorado Chorale and is also assistant professor of music and director of Choral Activities at Mesa College in Grand Junction, Colo. |
