Show PAGE y VMS ' squad take second place By TOM HARALDSEN VIEWMONT The cheerlead-ing cheerlead-ing squad of Viewmont High School is wearing silver medals this week, symbolic of its second-place second-place finish at the National Cheer-leading Cheer-leading Championships in Anaheim last week. Each girl was given a beautiful silver medal with a stars and stripes ribbon attached. Both Miss Waite and Miss Teasdale also received smaller medals for making the all-star all-star squad. Utah was also represented in the large girl category, as cheerleaders from Ogden's Bonneville High finished second in that division. Roy High School was entered in that division, but did not earn an award. The Vikings earned their invitation invita-tion to California by performances in October at the Ogden City Mall. The team earned passage to California Cali-fornia last year as well, but chose not to go. This year, they went and brought home the silver. In addition to earning all-star recognition, Miss Waite was offered a scholarship to the University Uni-versity of Hawaii. Both she and Miss Teasdale have also been invited in-vited to a cheerleading activity this summer in Hawaii. Preparing for Anaheim was not easy for the Viking cheerleaders, who practiced daily from 6-7 a.m., and then again for three hours during dur-ing the school day. They made up their own routines for the performances, perform-ances, supervised by advisor Toni Bauman. The Viking cheerleaders will be busy during any state basketball games featuring the Viewmont boys' or girls' squads. They also perform at other athletic activities throughout the year. |
