School lunch day proclaimed By TOM HARALDSEN Utah Governor Norm Bangerter has signed a proclamation declaring next Wednesday, March 2, as School Lunch Day in Utah. The proclamation was signed recently in the governor's gov-ernor's office at the state capitol. This event had a distinct Davis County connection, con-nection, as the winning design for the Utah School Food Service Association poster was that of Grant Golightly, a student at Millcreek Junior High. Grant and his parents, Leon D. and Emma Jean Golightly, were present for the signing. The proclamation reads as follows: "Whereas, the National School Lunch Program Prog-ram has served our state admirably for 42 years through advanced practices and nutrition edu- cation; and "Whereas the National School Lunch Program Prog-ram is dedicated to the health and well-being of our state's school children; and "Whereas the National School Lunch Program Prog-ram has been joined through the years by many other excellent child feeding programs; and "Whereas there is evidence of continued need for nutrition education and awareness of the value of school feeding programs: "Now, therefore, I, Norman H. Bangerter, Governor of the State of Utah, do hereby declare de-clare March 2, 1988 as School Lunch Day in the State of Utah, and encourage all citizens to join in the observation of this event." A variety of different activities will be scheduled sche-duled in school districts statewide that day in observance of the occasion. |
