Show Dear Editor: The recent announcement of the Davis County Commissioners Commission-ers deferring county employees merit pay for over one year was a shock to me and devastating to county employees and their families. It boggles the mind that the county commissioners did not budget a raise for county employees for the fiscal year knowing that taxes, utilities, services and commodities had gone up in prices. The cost of living raise is a necessity not a luxury. It boggles the mind to learn that Commissioner Tippetts is very concerned about HAFB employees being furloughed for 10 days when 335 county employees under his care are being deferred for over one year, some losing over $12,000 during their career. Now commissioner where is your focus? It does appear it is not on county employees. It boggles the mind to hear Com. Tippetts express his concern about service stations, businesses and etc. and react with insen-sitivity insen-sitivity toward his own employees. To attack the 10 days of furlough when he has deferred for one year is like the kettle calling the pot black. It smells like a skunk in the yard. Could this have been no more than a campaign speech? Could this speech have been planned and tilted, for HAFB workers? Could this speech have been a vote getter? You as a reader can draw your own opinion, just remember this on election year. Judge words for yourself what are real and which are vote getters. Good luck county employees. Ruby Jewell Price Layton |
