Show I Centerville City begins process to determine budget By TOM HARALDSEN CENTERVILLE The long process of determining a fiscal budget for 1988-89 has begun in Centerville, with city council approving dates and deadlines for various facets of the process. The process began with establishment of budget guidelines by Mayor Dean Argyle and city administrator David Hales. City staff and council members will now meet with department heads to prepare a preliminary budget, and council will hold a retreat on March 12 to define city policies, priorities and long-range goals. Consideration of Mayor Argyle's Capital Improvement Program recommendations will be a part of that retreat. On April 15, a review, balance and finalization of the recommended recom-mended budget will be discussed. A budget newsletter will be prepared and mailed on May 2 to residents of Centerville, and the budget will be presented in tentative form to city council on May 3. The budget will be available for, public review from that date until May 17, when a public hearing on the proposed fiscal package will be held as part of the regular city council meeting. A finalized budget will be prepared following the public hearing, hear-ing, with adoption set for June 7. After approval, the budget will be submitted to the state auditor on July 7. Mr. Hales stated that the city encourages public participation in the budgeting pro-;- cess. Those with questions or suggestions should contact Centerville Cen-terville City officials. f l |
