Show Swimmers tabbed as top athletes By TOM HARALDSEN Sports Editor A apir of state swimming stars are this week's Davis County Clipper-Little Caesar's Pizza Athletes of the Week. The male award goes to Viewmont's View-mont's Chris Knolls, who was the top local individual finisher at the state 4-A swimming championships champion-ships this past weekend. Knolls took home seventh in the 100 breast. Other male nominees included Woods Cross wrestler Donovan Anderson for his naming to the 4-A All-Academic team; Viewmont High basketballer Jared Blauer; Bountiful's Mitch Thain (previous winner), Jeff Reynolds and Tony Smith; and Davis High's Mike Welling and Bryan Emery (both previous winners). The feamel award winner this week is Woods Cross swimmer Suzi Green, who took eleventh place finishes in both he 50 and 100 free at the state swimming championships. cham-pionships. She had an outstanding region season as well. Other female nominees included Viewmont basketball Sharwan Smith, who had a superb game against Davis last week; Davis basketball bas-ketball star Becky Rees, Woods Cross roundballers Amy Mason and Carolyn Knight (previous winners); win-ners); and Bountiful basketball players Lisa Wilkinson, Mona Hibbert, Hib-bert, Julia Thomley and Stephanie Reading. All weekly winners receive certificates certi-ficates from the Clipper and pizzas from Little Caesar's Pizza of Bountiful. Boun-tiful. All become eligible for our Athlete of the Year Award to be presented this May. |
