The Miners, who emerged from a tough Region Two race as the fifth place team though they were just two games behind the champions, cham-pions, broke from a 10-all tie to take a 13-10 lead after one quarter. Viewmont hung close for most of the game, but could never catch up. The Vikings finished their season sea-son at 8-13 overall. Bingham shot extremely well from the field, finishing with 17-29 from the field (59 percent) , and putting put-ting the contest away in the fourth quarter from the free throw line. The Miners took a 20-13 lead with 3:00 left in the half after Kenneth Ken-neth Roberts (yes, another Roberts brother) scored. Paul James answered for Viewmont with a basket, bas-ket, but the Miners stretched the lead to 25-17 at the half as K.C. Tebbs scored. Viewmont pulled to within six midway through the third period when James and Derek Hope canned can-ned three-pointers to make it 3 1-25. Bingham ran off nine of the next 1 1 points however to make it 40-27, ' and Viewmont could get no closer than 10 points the rest of the wav. Mike Van Stavern scored 14 for Bingham, Roberts had 10, as did Darren Sluga. Viewmont got some spark when Brian Hillman came off the bench in the fourth period for seven points. Jared Blauer had eight, Kelly Bland nine and James 10 for the Vikings. Bingham earned a first round game with Clearfield Saturday night. |
