Ground breaking ceremonies set for new Centerville Fire Station By JUDY JENSEN Editor CENTERVILLE It took 25 years and hundreds of meetings, but Centerville is finally going to get its own fire station. Ground-breaking ceremonies will be held at the site of the new station at 100 S. Main Street, Centerville, Cen-terville, on Feb. 29 at 11 a.m. Welcoming remarks will be given by Centerville City Mayor Dean Argyle. Mayor Argyle serves as the chairman of the South Davis Fire District Board and has worked closely with Fire Chief Brent Argyle to assure the success of the project. Chief Argyle explained that he has recognized the need for the Centerville station, "since 1962. We've fought hard since that time and we're finally seeing the end of the tunnel," he said. The addition of station number 3 to the district will dramatically cut the emergency response time to Centerville residents. Chief Argyle said this fact should reduce the cost of fire insurance for local businesses busines-ses and residents. The cost is determined by the rating of local fire districts. The South Davis Fire District has a current cur-rent rating of five and the Chief expects that to be lowered to four with the completion of the new station. sta-tion. Chief Argyle and Bruce Bow-didge, Bow-didge, who will serve as assistant chief at the new station, will address the crowd at the groundbreaking ground-breaking ceremony. The new two bay station will house one full-size tanker, one mini-tanker and an ambulance. The station will employ 25 workers and will be manned 16 hours each day between 8 a.m. and 12 midnight. mid-night. The remaining hours will be served on an on-call basis. The public is invited to join the Fire District Board, the firefighters and the Centerville City Council at the ceremony. |
