Show Hansen a school hero The Davis County School Board honored Valley View's Principal Dr. Dolores Hansen. This award follows on the heels of being selected "Instructional Leader of the Year" in Utah by her associates associ-ates in the Utah Association of Elementary School Principals, presented to Dr. Hansen at the UAESP mid-winter conference at Dixie College. Feb. 11-12. Dr. Hansen has been principal at Valley View elementary since 1983, having first taught in Davis District at Muir Elementary 1978-82. 1978-82. She earned an Ed.D. in educa tional administration at the University Univer-sity of Utah in 1984 and holds an M.S.Ed., and a B.S. degree from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. Her professional activities in the District include membership on the Superintendent's principal peer review re-view committee, the negotiating team, chairman of the committee to redesign items for the teacher evaluation program and the OBE math program. A native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin Wiscon-sin and married to a career Air Force officer, Dr. Hansen began her teaching career as a substitute once her two young daughters were in school. The principal kept urging me: "Get your degree and come work for me full-time." I thought: "Why not?" And so she did. As much as she enjoyed teaching, she enjoys being a principal prin-cipal even more. "It's like I enjoy being a grandmother more than a mother," she explains. Her philosophy in a nutshell is to make education exciting for kids. "A child's day at school should not only be productive, but filled with wonder and excitement at the learning process." |
