Show Saunders named director of American Lung Assn. The Board of Directors of the American Lung Association of Utah has named Katharin Gay Saunders, Bountiful, as executive director, it was announced by R. James Steenblik, president. She is the seventh executive officer for the 72 year old association, associa-tion, Utah's oldest voluntary health agency. She succeeds Franklin K. Brough who retired Feb. 1 , after 30 years of service as executive director. Prior to that she was affiliated with the Wasatch Front Regional Council and McKay-Dee Hospital. "I am proud to join the well respected re-spected and highly successful Lung Association," says Saunders. Saun-ders. "I shall give my best effort to not only continue, but to expand the excellent patient services, community education, fund raising and professional training programs in the conquest of lung disease and the promotion of lung health." "As we conclude the 80th anniversary of the National Christmas Christ-mas Seal Campaign, I want to thank the thousands of Utahns who have mailed their contributions, large and small and sometimes multiple to support the Lung Association programs in Utah," says Saunders. "It will help our smoking cessation services, the self-care training programs for adults with COPD and children with asthma, and our fight against environmental hazards, such as air pollution and toxic waste incineration incinera-tion which cause lung disease." Saunders says that she urges those Utahns who have not yet answered their Christmas Seal letter let-ter with a contribution to do so now. It is not too late to be counted in the fight against lung diseases, the nation's third leading cause of death. President Steenblik said that Saunders would also serve as executive ex-ecutive secretary of the Inter-mountain Inter-mountain Thoracic Society, the medical arm of the American Lung Association of Utah. |
