Show GEM STATE MAN IS AGAINST COMMISSION Nathan Ricks of Rexbuxg Says That Cost to the State Is Too Great. Nathan Ricks of Eeibnrg, Idaho, prominently identified with the livestock live-stock industry of that state, is a visitor to Salt Lake City, and is authority for the statement that the people of the upper Snake River valley in Idaho do not feel that the public utilities commission com-mission of that state is worth what it costs to maintain it. "I do not wish to be understood as attacking the commission, ' 1 said Mr. Ricks, ' ' but my .opinion is that it not only has not produced the results which were expected when it was created, but is really not producing results commensurate commen-surate with its expense to the state. "In fact, it seems to me that in a section like ours the commission does really more harm than good. It has a tendency to hamper expansion and development, de-velopment, and this is detrimental to a young and growing community. In such improvements as lighting plants, the commission has a tendency toward curtailing competition and growth. "My opinion is shared by a majority of the men of our section with whom I have talked on the matter. Wo don't see that the commission has done lis any good. It may have helped a little in the coal shortage situation, but for the most part we are unable to note any help at all that the commission has given us. About 90 per cent of our snipping is interstate, and comes under the regulation of the interstate commerce com-merce commission anyway. " Mr. Ricks expresses the hope that Utah would not get a direct primary law. "It is a farce," he said, ''and we in Idaho aro sorry we have it." |
