Show Tot and Teddy Bear Maintain Faithful Vigil Little Girl With Tag on Her Breast Orders Officer to Call "Daddy." j Ai LITTLE GIRL, Lorraine Mullin-s:er, Mullin-s:er, 4 years of age, daughter of Gus Mullinger, barber, 474 South West Temple street, kept vigil with "Patsy" in the stillness of the early morning hours yesterday at the Denver & Rio Grande railroad depot. From midnight until 4 o'clock In the morning- the tot looked wistfully at "Patsy" nnd then hugged him constantly. con-stantly. Through the big doors of the depot her eyes occasionally peered. The little girl was waiting for her daddy and was all unmindful of the hour or the fact that she and "Patsy" were the sole guards at the station. Lorraine arrived on a train from . Spokane. Four months ago her parents sent her to her aunt at Spokane. The aunt had a card pinned on the child's breast and gave her in charge of the conductor of the train. The train reached the Denver & Rio Grande railroad depot. The parents went to meet her at the Oregon Short Line railroad depot and when they did not find her there thought that she was coming on another' train. But while Salt Lake slept the little girl, alone with "Patsy," upon whom she showered her love, frolicked in the D. & R. G. depot. The big clock at the station ticked off the hours and only the tot's childish glee punctuated the general quietude. Then through the big doors there quietly stepped a man, ever so much bigger J.han Lorraine's adored "Patsy." The man was Patrolman Arthur Merrick. Mer-rick. The girl ran to him with joy. The 4 -year-old mite showed him the card clinging to her breast. The patrolman read It and was moved by the child's confidence in him. "You big man," she paid, "ring up daddy." And the patrolman obeyed as if he were receiving a command from a superior officer. The parents hurriedly went to the depot and gathered little Lorraine In their arms, showering kisses upon her. And the little girl In return kissed "Patsy," for "Patsy" is a little teddy bear that she apparently appar-ently loves dearly. |
