Show 'ONLY MILD WEATHER LESSENS (M CRY Dealers Still Without Fuel to Meet Demand of Unfilled Un-filled Orders. Providence took a hand in the coal situation yesterdav. As the result of milder -weather the demand for fuel was decreased somewhat, but this does not mean that there was any more coal on hand. In fact, there was not; neither neith-er was there one-twentieth enough to supply the demand. During the twenty-four hours ending at noon yesterday tho Denver & Rio Grande delivered thirty-eight cars of coal into the Salt Lake yards, exclusive of eight cars delivered to tho Oregon Short Line for delivery to customers on its tracks. Had this coal been distrib-! distrib-! utod equally among the various retail dealers in the city it would not have lasted more than an hour. 4 Owiutj to "billing" it was not delivered in this manner and as a result many of the yards still have the " N. C." (no coal) fiign out, while possibly two or three yards have from one to two carloads to start on this morning. The fact is, according to one of the largest dealers in the city a man who is unusually well posted on the situation situa-tion there was not a pound more coal in Salt Lake yestorday than thero was on Friday, or Thursday, or any other day of the week. Tho weather was simply milder and the people without coal were less insistent in their demands; de-mands; that was all. Two cars of coal were billed to Bine-ham Bine-ham yesterday from Salt Lake and will arrive there today. Many cars are needed there, but the two will tend to relieve the situation temporarily. At Kureka the situation is acute and Governor Bamberger has been appealed to for assistance. Leading officials have asked the chief executive of the state to give them help in their ex.: tremity. It is announced from Kureka that fully 150 families arc entirely without fuel and that suffering will result re-sult unless the situation can be relieved at once. Dealers at Eureka report that they have hundreds of orders unfilled and they see no immediate prospect of catching up with them. |
