Show ARMY OFFICER OUT OF MILITIA SERVICE Colonel of New York Regiment Resents Re-sents Criticism of His Command; Returns to Regulars as Captain. BROWNSVILLE, Texas, Jan. 27. The resignation of Colonel Gordon Johnston of the Twelfth New York infantry in-fantry has been accepted by the war department, it was announced here today. to-day. A few days ago it was given out that Colonel Johnston had been reassigned reas-signed to the command of the Twelfth. Colonel Johnston, whose rank in the regular army is that of captain, tendered ten-dered his resignation some time ago because, be-cause, during a review, the appearance of his command evoked unfavorable comment from Major General O'Ryan of the New York division, who ordered him to remarch the Twelfth. WASHINGTON, Jan. 27, Colonel Johnston, with the resignation of his commission as head of a national guard regiment, returns to his regular rank of captain in the regular army and will bo assigned to troops later. |
