Show CHINESE FACTIONS SUGGEST TONG WAR , Supposed Highbinders Said to Have-Been Have-Been Imported From San Francisco; j Officers After Gunmen.. Intimation of a possible war between two Chinese factions in Salt Lake was provided early yesterday morning, when Patrolmen L. 1. Larsen and C. M. Patten Pat-ten investigated a disturbance at the A. B. C. restaurant, 67 East Second street. The officers fired at a Chinese, Chi-nese, said to be a highbinder or gunman gun-man recently imported from San Francisco. Fran-cisco. According to the police, three highbinders high-binders arrived in the city last week at the invitation of one of the factions. They are alleged to b wanted for use in connection with any fight that may spring up. The highbinder is said to have entered en-tered the restaurant and to have threatened threat-ened the proprietor. Other Chinese telephoned the police. The highbinder, upon seeing the officers, fled into the street and escaped, not stopping when the patrolmen fired and commanded him to halt. The affair follows in tho wake of tho recent case heard in the police court when Chong Lung was fined $25 for an attack on another Chinese. At that time it was stated by counsel for the defense that a Chinese tong war appeared ap-peared imminent in Salt Lake and he warned the police to be on their guard to meet any situation that might develop. |
