Show MIGHHiS DUTLOQKJS BRIGHT Big Mine Has Made Splendid Splen-did Record of Development Develop-ment During Year. OPENING HIGH GRADE Big Ore Reserves Will Add to Output in Aggressive 1917 Campaign. The management of the Michigan-" Utah Consolidated Minos company since Novembor has been watching with much anticipation an ore body that has been in process of development since that time. This is the ore body in the cross-cut from the Lavinia tunnel, locally lo-cally referred to as the Bobbins winze, also called the Bobbins stope, anc the Larinla oross-cnt. Not much has been said about this, except that publication was made of a shipment of high-gTade running $220 a ton in December. It is becoming apparent that this ore bod-y is immense. Progress on Raise. The engineers report that at this time they have drifted on this particular body 152 foet. They have put up a raise in ore thirty-five feet. They have cross-cut it in several places and it has a minimum thickness or width of eight feet and a maximum thickness o twenty twen-ty feet and over, as thus far developed, and what is more Important, the entire body will average $40 per ton. It is also pretty clearly demonstrated that this body of ore extends upward still further and downward to the Copper Prince tunnel, with every indication that it goes to unknown depths below the latter tnnneL The ore carries gold, copper, silver and lead, with iron and manganese, and is quite low in insolu-blos. insolu-blos. The large interests in Michigan-Utah have always believed in,, the greatness of the property, when properly developed. devel-oped. The only question was as to the size of the ore bodies. That they were large many believed. This is but one of the many places in and upon the property where the management expects ex-pects to develop ore bodies of large extent. ex-tent. The area of the property is extensive, ex-tensive, extending from Lake Solitude in the Big Cottonwood to Alta in the Little Cottonwood. Will Push Development. The agressive campaign started in November Inst in the sevoral openings in Michigan-Utah will be continuod throughout the year 1917. It is believed that the Michigan-Utah will add materially ma-terially to the mineral product of the Btate of Utah during the current year. More than 700 tons of high-grade ore were shipped in 1916. This was net dry ore nt the smelter and all fairlv high grade. There are immense bodies of low-grade ore that will undoubtedly be a subjoct of consideration early in the spring. These bodies only await better transportation facilities to tho smelter to prove highly profitable. By the opening of spring the transportation question will be settled favorably. Steadily Shipping. Up to this date, during the month of January, twenty-five cars of Michigan-Utah Michigan-Utah ore has gone to the smelter and there will undoubtedly be seven or eight moro shipped before the first of February. Febru-ary. Those shipments would have been easily doubled, except for the difficulties difficul-ties encountered by the Salt Lake & Alta railroad in operating between Wasatch Wa-satch and Midvale. The. storms in the valley have rendered the tracks of the railroad at times impassable and there has been great delay on that account. However, everything seems to be working work-ing pretty smoothly on the railroad just at present. This "has been an unusual winter in railroad matters in Salt Lake valley. No impression has yet been made on tho surplus ore belonging to Michigan-f'lah Michigan-f'lah at Wasatch and Tanner's irlat. There are 200 tons dumped on the railroad rail-road siding at Vat-at:h and more than MOO tons at Tannpr '3 Flat. The capacity ca-pacity of the bins at Tanner's Flat is about 600 tons ; the residue Is dumped on the ground. If the present good weather should continue for a couple of weeks this surplus ore would be cleaned up. The tramway is workine nicely between the mine and Tanner ' Flat. In fact, it has done well during the entire en-tire past year. As herpfoforo reported, sulphide copper cop-per ore has been encountered in the Copper Cop-per Prince tunnel. This is a good grade ore and is developing into a big bodv. Shipments from this point will begin In tho near future. |
