Show Reinforcements Arrive. The firing of the Utah troopers drew other Mexicans and cowboys to the scene. Rocks and other available cover were taken advantage of by fighters on both sides, and all day the firing continued, though at times it was desultory, since the Utah boys were too far outnumbered to take the offensive and the Mexicans kept well covered. A courier was dispatched by Lieutenant Arnes to Arivaca, where the main body of the Utah cavalry outpost is located. About thirty troopers from Arivaca were rushed to the scene and immediately jumped Into the fight. The cavalrymen forced the Mexicans to keep down to such an extent that the firing was for a time greatly diminished. |
