Show URGE IMPROVEMENT OF WESTERN BRIDGES Thore is a movement on foot in the west for the improvement of tho thousands thou-sands of bridges and culverts along the roads. There aro hundreds of miles of good roads, and most of theso roads can bo used for motor truck traffic with the exception of tho bridges. Many a pood road is useless for motor truck traffic on account of tho poor bridges. A road is Just like a chain, it is only as strong as its bridges, so far as motor trock traffic is concerned. There would be many more truck l lines in this state if the bridges were strong enough to hold the heavy loads. - Herbert C. Hoover, federal food ad-.ministrator, ad-.ministrator, is urging the formation of ihotor truck companies all ovor the country to increase tho uso of perishable perish-able foodstuffs and thus leave tho staples for use of the fighting forces overseas. The one way to got this food from the farm to the city markets is by the use of motor trucks. Hnndreds of motor trucks are now in uso all over tho east moving food products prod-ucts from farm to citv and taking needed supplies to tho farmers. This uso of motor trucks would be more general in tTtah and the west if tho roads and bridges were in good enough condition to allow tho use of heavy duty trucks with trailer?. |
