Show By the Governor of the State of Utah i: A PROCLAMATION f-pHE L uited States government, 5 I through the war department, '; A desires (II to dee!op as great a national asset as is possible of the large body of fino voutig men of high school and col-I col-I lege age; (2) to prevent the prema- ture enlistment for active military service of these men who could, by ! extending the period of their school ! training, multiply manifold their value to their country, and (3) to !; prepare men for the great ivork of reconstruction after the mar. The national government desires ; that all high school male graduates and all college men not already in !; active service shall continue their ; work in school, and shall offer their ( services to the nation by enlisting in the student army training corps in the colleges and universities. It is the policy of the national 1 government not to call into activo service young men of draft age who are. in the students' army training corps of the colleges and universities universi-ties until they have completed their courses. The work of encouraging this national na-tional movement is being carried out iu the state of Utah by tho students' war service campaign, v which lias tho official sanction of ; the war department, of tho depart-'! depart-'! ment of navy, of the national coun-? coun-? oil of defense, of the secretary of the interior, of the I'nitcd States v commissioner of education, F. 1 . Claxton, and lias the personal sane- ; ti'on of President Woodrow Wilson. ; This movement has the enthusi ; astic support of the board of trustees !; of the Educational association and of all the educational icpreseula-lives icpreseula-lives of the state. ; Therefore, I, Simon Bamberger, ; governor of the state of Utah, here- ',: by proclaim and designate Sunday, August 25, as "Education and Dc- 1 cision day," and call upon the peo- ;; pie of tho commonwealth lo rally to the support of this movement, and, j in proper place and manner in their ., respective communities, hold public , patriotic, meetings with a view to ; serving the nation and the cause of the allies by encouraging young men ; to enlist in the service of the conn- . try by continuing their .-work in the ; grades, high schools, colleges and : universities. ; Iu testimony whereof, I have here- ;, unto set my hand and caused to be , affixed the great seal of the state ;. of Utah.
