Show MORE PROGRESS MADE BY FRENCH ALONG THE AVRE PAULS, Aug. 17. The French made further fur-ther progress today north and south of the Avre, having' taken 1000 prisoners and numerous machine puns since yesterday, yes-terday, nccordlng to the war office statement state-ment tonight. They captured the village of Canny-sur-Matz, and in addition took enemy positions on a front of nearly two miles to a depth of more than a mile in the region of Autrieches, in the Sois-sons Sois-sons sector. The text of tho communication says: Our progress continued north and south of the Avre, where we have taken 1000 prisoners and numerous machine guns since yesterday. Further Fur-ther south we captured Canny-sur-Matz, and north of the Aisne we captured enemy positions on a front of five kilometers, and to a depth of I.tOO meters in the region of Autrieches. Au-trieches. In this latter action we took 210 prisoners. Twelve enemy airplanes were brought down yesterday., |
