Show SALT LIKE YOUTH WIHSTINCT1 Lieutenant Francis A. Porter, a Salt Lake marine, has the distinction of being the first "Utah graduate from the officers' training camp, Quantico, La., since America's Amer-ica's entrance In the war. He entered the school June 15 of this year and completed the prescribed work August 15, coming out with the rank of second lieutenant. lieu-tenant. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles F. Porter, 118 F street He enlisted en-listed with the marines May 18, 1917. Lieutenant Porter is also a graduate of the Culver military school in Indiana, having hav-ing finished a course there in 1914. While attending Culver he won distinction for a heroic rescue. Through an accident to a passenger boat operating In the Ohio river the lives of 1800 persons became imperiled. Fifty marines were called to the rescue and through their bravery and endurance every passenger was saved.
