Knickerbocker, superintendent o the Oregon Short Line, -who has just r turned from a trip to Washington, J) ( Mr. Knickerbocker snvs that durin the winter the mines of" this state an Wyoming will be called upon to sen at least one and possibly two trainloail of coal a day across the Missouri rive fpr use by the- manufacturing plants o Miio, Indiana and other eastern point This will make a heavy demand upo ' the coal supply of these states and a the eastern manufacturers will hav first call on the coal because of wa t industries, the domestic consumer 1 this district is liable to have difficult in getting coal unless he takes time b the forelock and lays in a supply now For ninety days past the railroads i this territory have been handling con for storage in this district, and it i announced that they will continue t handle a supply principally for storage for the ensuing sixty days, but tha after that the main movement of coa will be eastward. Hence, the necessif for prompt action by local consumers 11 getting their storage bins filled for tin winter while there is yet opportunity t( get the supply. This warning to store coal was sound ed by the fuel administration earlv 11 tho summer, and while there has beei a large quantity of fuel stored in thi! territory, there still are. many people it is said, who have failed to take ad vantage of the opportunity to lay n a winter's supply of fuel, and such arc likely to find themselves in serioui straits from a fuel standpoint unless they take quick action,' it is said. |
