Show Thain, Mason top athletes I By TOM HARALDSEN Sports Editor I ! Bountiful High's Mitch Thain, who poured in a league-high 28 points during the Braves 81-70 loss to East Friday, and Woods Cross' Amy Mason, whose 3 1 points led the Wildcats to a pair of wins, have been named Davis County Clipper-Little Caesar's Pizza Athletes of the Week. Thain's effort Friday kept the Braves within striking distance of the Leopards, who were red hot in earning their first league win. Others nominated for the male ward included Davis High's Bryan Emery (previous winner) and Brian Olsen, Woods Cross' Mike Vanderlinden (23 points in a loss to Davis), and View-mont's View-mont's Jared Blauer, who scored 20 in a tough loss at Highland. Mason had her usual consistent games as the Wildcats moved to 4-0 in league play, 12-2 overall. She tallied 31 points, plus worked the fast break beautifully with teammate Carolyn Knight, a previous winner who scored 46 points in two games. Other female nominees included Knight and teammate Marci Heaps (previous winner), Davis High's Jaylynn Jorgensen, Bountiful's Julia Thornley and Stephanie Reading, and three Viewmont players who have all won previously, sophomore Melissa Eggett (53 points in two games), Tiffany Twitchell and Becky Yeates. All weekly winners, who can only be honored once per sports season, receive a certificate from the Clipper and pizza from Little Caesar's Pizza in Bountiful. |
