Show Evans awarded Silver Beaver FRUIT HEIGHTS Lake Bonneville Bon-neville Council Boy Scouts of America had their 68th annual banquet ban-quet Jan. 19 at the Ogden Hilton Hotel. Fruit Heights was represented by Smith and Pearl Evans, who were accompanied to the dinner by their son David and his wife Luann; their daughter Marian Cook and friends, Mr. and Mrs. Wendell Collier. After remarks from the council president, Ernest D. Brown, recognition rec-ognition was given with awards to worthy scouts and scouters. The last honors were the Silver Beaver presentation to 30 people. Smith S. Evans was among those receiving this recognition. Smith started his scouting service ser-vice as an assistant scoutmaster in 1925, Troop 1, Layton Ward. He served as scoutmaster from 1943-45, 1943-45, Troop 24, Sacramento Ward, California, and Troop 154, Layton, 1946-47. He served as Explorer leader 1960-62, in Ukiah, Calif. In 1965-69 he served as a district committee member in the Francis Peak District. From 1969 to present pre-sent he has served as troop, cub and post committee member. Before his retirement, Smith served as a civil engineer for the U.S. Geological Service When he retired in 1965 he received a meritorious meri-torious service award from the U.S. government. He served as the president of the Kaysville Lions Club, has served in many LDS Church positions and his hobby is square dancing. He received his Eagle Scout award in 1925 and was a Pioneer Scout in 1921. The Lake Bonneville Council presented Mr. Evans the Silver Beaver award and honored his wife Pearl with a flower bouquet. |
