Show Mothers: Sing your hearts out The Utah Mothers Association of the National American Mothers Inc. is again sponsoring their annual state vocal music contest. Hie winner will be eligible for national na-tional competition. In the past, this competition has been open to young women between the ages of 18 and 22. This age restriction is now gone and the contest is open to any mother. To be eligible the contestant must be a mother, she must not be a professional singer, and must have studied with a competent teacher for at least one year. Those competing compet-ing are to make a tape of three vocal selections chosen from the following follow-ing categories: an aria from an opera or oratorio; an early Italian song; a German lieder; or a French or English art song. The contestants will compete Wednesday, Feb. 17 at the Salt Lake City downtown ZCMI mall at 6:30 p.m. This will be in conjunction conjunc-tion with the Fine Art exhibit and awards. The winner will represent the state of Utah by singing at the Utah Mothers Convention at the Tri Arc Hotel in Salt Lake City on Feb. 20, and receive $100. The state winner's win-ner's tape will then be sent to the national competition. The national winner will receive $1,000 and sing at the National American Mothers Convention in Puerto Rico. Last year's Utah winner was first runner-up in the nation. Applications should be sent to Jean W. Madsen, 345 S. 1100 E., Bountiful, Utah 84010, 292-1691 and postmarked not later than Jan. 31. A $5 fee must accompany the application, along with a 5x7 black and white photograph. |
