Show Glaucoma screening on Fri. Glaucoma is one of the nation's leading causes of blindness. While, it strikes without pain or obvious symptoms, glaucoma can result in permanent eye damage. In an effort to generate awareness aware-ness and provide early detection of this serious disease, National Society Soci-ety to Prevent Blindness Utah Affiliate Affi-liate will conduct a free screening from Friday, Jan. 28 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Glaucoma testing will take place at the Medicine Shop-pe Shop-pe pharmacy, 47 E. 500 S. No appointment is necessary. Current statistics from the National Na-tional Society to Prevent Blindness indicate that of the two million Americans who have glaucoma, approximately half are unaware they have an eye problem. "Glaucoma is more common in older individuals, people with cardiovascular car-diovascular diseases, and people with a family history of the disease," dis-ease," says Medicine Shoppe pharmacist, Cal Christensen. "The check for glaucoma is simple and painless," he notes, "anyone showing signs of the disease will be encouraged to visit an eye care specialist spe-cialist or physician for further testing." |
