Show Land sale discussed By GARY R. BLODGETT FARMINGTON Should Farmington City go into the real estate business? The city owns about 12 acres of property near the mouth of Farmington Canyon which city council members feel could be worth as much as $200,000. The question remains: how should the property be disposed? Should it be sold by the city in one parcel, be divided into two or three smaller pieces, or subdivided into parcels of about one-half one-half acre lots? City Manager Max Forbush told the council that the property, if subdivided, could be worth as much as $30,000 per acre. "But there would be the engineering and site plans costs connected with subdividing that would range between $12,000 and $15,000." There was also some discussion among the council to retain the city-owned land for a future city park, but Councilman Don A. White Jr., himself a land developer, said there is property elsewhere in the city more suitable for a park and that the canyon property is too steep for a recreational site. City Manager Max Forbush said there will be some problems in selling the property, but money derived from the sale could go a long way in the financing of existing and future city projects such as completion of North Farmington Park, installation and repair of storm sewer lines, and construction of a new city fire ermrtnieni |
