Show Davis School District area director named By DONETA GATHERUM FARMINGTON Dr. W. Russell Rus-sell Olson, newly appointed Davis School District Area Director, brings both elementary teaching and administrative experience to this position. Currently serving as principal at Muir Elementary School, Dr. Olson has been a principal at Meadowbrook, Stoker and South Bountiful. From 1957 until 1961 he was a teacher at Adelaide School in Bountiful. Dr. Olson is a graduate of the University of Utah with B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees. He has been involved in many education reform movements through professional profes-sional committee appointments and through a desire to improve the local curriculum. He was on the teacher certification certifica-tion revision and early childhood elementary education committee for the Utah State Office of Education Educa-tion in 1985-86. From 1980 to 1986 he worked with the Utah systems approach to individualized instruction instruc-tion as an implementor and demonstration demon-stration school principal. He participated parti-cipated as a panel member in the U.S. Department of Education "Nation at Risk" forum in June, 1983. As an elementary school principal, princip-al, Dr. Olson implemented a successful suc-cessful school computer program and a gifted-talented program. He produced a media package dealing with the principal's role in reading instruction that was presented at national and local curriculum conferences. con-ferences. This was in conformity with SB 100. Dr. Olson has contributed to "The Leader," published by the Utah Association of Elementary School Principals, "The Elementary Elemen-tary Story," written with three other principals under the sponsorship sponsor-ship of the Utah Association of Elementary School Principals, and "Differentiated Staffing: The Team Leader Role in Elementary School Team Teaching," an unpublished un-published Ph.D. dissertation. As the director's first area di tor, Dr. Olson will be responsW for overseeing curriculum in grades K-12 in the regions services by Clearfield, Bountiful and Woods Cross High Schools. |
