Show Rampton heads heart drive The American Heart Association, Associa-tion, Utah affiliate has announced the appointment of Calvin L. Rampton, a former Utah governor, as its state campaign chairman. " The announcement was made by Floyd B. "Shum" Jensen, chairman chair-man of the board for the AHA, Utah affiliate. Mr. Rampton is currently cur-rently engaged in the private practice prac-tice of law with the firm of Jones, Waldo, Holbrook and McDo-nough. McDo-nough. As state campaign chairman, Rampton will primarily oversee the efforts of almost 20,000 volunteers statewide who assist with the AHA's residential campaign. The residential campaign is the largest single fund-raising activity for the Utah affiliate each year. The residential re-sidential campaign takes place each February, National Heart Month, and involves the volunteers volun-teers who contact their neighbors for a contribution to the American Heart Association. Funds raised by the AHA are used to reduce premature death and disability from heart disease and stroke. The AHA funds several sever-al research projects here in Utah as well as nationally each year. Approximately $288,000 was spent on heart research in Utah during 1987. In addition, the funds sup port several educational and community com-munity programs such as Slim for Life and American Heart's Food Festival at the community site; Heart Treasure Chest and Save A Sweet Heart at the school site; Heart at Work, a work site program; prog-ram; and basic life support, advanced adv-anced cardiac life support and Heart Rx at the healthcare site. Besides the residential campaign, cam-paign, Rampton will also assist on other special projects as possible-needed possible-needed to aid the overall effort of the Utah affiliate.
