District names winners in history fair Over 250 displays and exhibits were entered in the first "History Fair" sponsored by the Uintah School District and the social studies teachers. The fair had a great variety of displays ranging from a five foot guillotine . to dioramas of Indian culture. Some of the displays were individual projects while others were class projects like the state flags from Maeser. Judges' for the elementary projects were from Duchesne District, Dr. Wayne Reid judged the secondary projects. Following the judging, the displays were open to the public. Several hundred hun-dred parents and friends came throughout the evening to see the projects. Students came with their families to show off the work in their classes. Many of the projects reflected a great deal of hard work, a metal sword from the high school and a pottery castle from West were typical of the hard work and effort in the projects. All projects were narrowed down at the schools, only the best projects were selected to go to the district fair. Each project shown at the district fair received a certificate from the district that will be presented in the awards assemblies at .the individual schools. An overall winner was chosen for each class. The judges commented that it had been extremely hard to choose because of the work and craftsmanship in them. The winners were: 1st grade-Miss Riches first grade from Central; 2nd grade-Miss Simmons class from Central; 3rd grade-Quint and Kyle Bennion from Maeser; 4th grade-Brandon grade-Brandon Bowthrope from Naples, Greg Ralphs, 5th grade-Ann Messenger from Discovery; Jr. High-Mike Rohr of West Jr. High and Valarie Valdez won the high school prize. |
