Show Vernal Junior High athletes collect honors in program Neldon Smuin was selected as the all around athlete in an athletic awards program at Vernal Junior High, Tuesday morning. Smuin competed in football,' wrestling and track and was 1 11 studentbody president. His father, Leon Smuin, wrestling and football Mch, was presented an outstanding ach award by the 9th graders. Nabbing football awards were Won Smuin, Lloyd Merkley, Kurt Robb, Murray Johnson, Quinn Trujillo, Oaks, Mike Lindsey, Russell er6uson, Mike Lance, Gary Swim, MteRobbins and Mike Brady. Gaining wphies were: Murray Johnson, best Wensive back; Quinn Trujillo, Troy ks, Mike Lindsey, most improved; Russell Ferguson, Mike Lance, most inspirational and Gary Swim, Mike Whins, Mike Brady, most out- . standing. Receiving 7th grade wrestling Wards were: Richard Horrocks, Mark wrson, Max Merkeley, Darrin Johnson, Ricky Oldson, Robert "na, Ricky McKnight, Dee Steinfeld, Jaramillo, Larry Hanson, Eric David Richens, Pat Mahoney, k Barker, David Williams, Mitch J3". Oaks, Robbins, Bedell and Tingey nabbed outstanding awards and Johnson was named as the most improved im-proved wrestler. Plaques were presented to undefeated tusslers, Smuin, 14-0; Woody, 19-0, and McNeill, 15-0. Smuin was named as the most inspirational tussler and Woody won the outstanding wrestler award. McNeill Mc-Neill nabbed the most dedicated trophy. Woody had the most pins during the year at 17. Bagging basketball awards in the 8th grade were: Danny Allen, Rick Porter, David Gurr, Tony Lewis, Ken Rasmussen, Kyle Johnson, Tim Haslem, Clark Jones, Curt Taylor, Troy Caldwell, Derick Adams, and Gilbert Davis. Lewis won the most outstanding hoopster award. Marc Reynolds was awarded the 9th grade basketball hustle award and most improved players were Kelly Sorensen and Jimmy Hamilton. Leading rebounder was Kurt Robb and Gary Swim was the leading scorer. The assists leader was Lloyd Merkley. Other members of the team were: Brian Kellogg, Brad Richens, Russell Ferguson, Tony Lewis, Greg Ball, John Luthi and Alec Clark, manager.
