Show Contestants for pageant sought The search is on for girls to enter KVEL's Miss Uintah Basin-USA beauty pageant to be held in Vernal on June 30, . 1981. Each contestant is a potential Miss Universe. The girls in our local pageant will be judged on beauty, personality, swim suit competition, formal competition and a judges interview. Talent is not required for this competition. KVEL's Miss Uintah Basin-USA will receive many special gifts. Each contestant will receive a photography session from Aspen Photography as well as classes to help make her a more confident contestant. The age requirements are from 18 to 28 years. She must be single and of good moral character. KVEL's Miss Uintah Basin-USA will compete in the Miss Utah-USA pageant. Miss Utah-USA will then represent the Beehive State in the nationally televised Miss USA pageant that is held each May. Miss USA 1981 will be crowned Thursday night at 8 p.m. in the television pageant. Our local winner will be competing in the 1982 Miss Utah-USA pagent. The Miss USA pageant is a prelude to the international in-ternational Miss Universe Pageant. The Miss USA and Miss Universe contest are in their 30th year of pageantry. These two contests continue to set standards of excellence throughout the world. The highly prized Miss Universe title for 1980 presently belongs to Shawn Weatherly of South Carolina, USA. She was acclaimed the winner in competition with delegates . from 69 nations in Seoul, Republic of Korea. It is estimated that over 600,000,000 people in more than 50 countires throughout the world viewed the telecast. Jineane Ford of Gilbert, Ariz., became Miss USA in 1980 after Shawn Weatherly was crowned Miss Universe. Jineane was active in Future Farmers of America in high school and served as one of the first female FFA chapter and district presidents.
