Visiting Professional Plays Strange Course With Surprising Sur-prising Accuracy. MR. BRA.D-Y and his partner, M. L. Dickie, went down to defeat before the winning combina- tiou of Hal Lamb and George Von Kim yesterday afternoon. They lost thoir thirty-six-hoie match by the score of five up and four to play. The match terminated at the thirty-second hole, but the golfers finished the, round, Lamb and Von Elm taking two more holes and bringing their total up to 6even for the complete thirty-six holes. The match was played in connection with the tourney for the benefit of the Red Cross. The work of Brady, with his long driving, and young von Elm, with his superb putting and approaching to the greens, was the big feature of the match. Their shots were so well played and faultless that they were given numerous cheers by tho large gallery which followed the players. Lamb and Von Elm finished the first round two up, and from that time onward on-ward they were never headed. They took the fourth hole with a margin of two. after tying on tho first three, but Brady and Dickie turned right around and captured the fifth and sixtliputting them one to tho good. Von Elm and Lamb won the next three handily, however, how-ever, giving them two the better of it. The latter team manipulated the next nine holes in three strokes fewer than their opponents, but they were unable to increase their lead by so much as a single hole. The first four holes on the second round saw Von Elm and Lamb winning win-ning by a handy, margin, for they took threo of them, and that gave them the lead, with which they finished th,e match. Tt was well that they were able to iucrease their lea.d in this manner, man-ner, for from that point until the end of play their opponents were pushing them hard, with first one team and then another taking the remaining holes. Brady is a celebrated professional from the Oakley Country club, Boston, Bos-ton, and holds the "championship and also the titles for Vermont and southern California. Ho is on his way to take np his duties in the naval service in California-, and has been playing a number of exhibition Red Cross matches during his trip. His playing yesterday afternoon was accounted ac-counted remarkable, especially in view of the fact that the local links are practically new to him. He played the,, last nine holes in thirty-six, which is' par for the course, besides having two thirty-sevens for the first eighteen Holes and a thirty-eight for the third set. In addition to the exhibition match, a Red Cross tournament was played by the club members. Thornton Gilmer was the winner, with a met score of sixty-nine, and R. C. Gemmell three strokes behind him for second honors. The semi-finals of the special monthly handicap tourney wilj be staged today, with H. D. Randall competing against C. H. Doolittle. and L.
