Show HOW TO PROPERLY OIL AUTO SPRINGS One of the most annoying things about an automobile is a squeaky Spring. When a motorist complains about it to his ga rage man or to the d ealer who sold him the car, it is .evident that he has not been using the right kind of lubricant. lubri-cant. Plain oils and greases squeeze out and permit friction between the bare metal of the leaves. The Joseph Dixon Crucible company, manufacturers of Dixon's motor graphite, give this advice about lubricating the springs: JacK up the car so that all the weight is oft" the springs and spread the leaves apart With a screw driver or "instrument "in-strument provided for that purpose. Then smear a creamy mixture of kerosene and motor graphite between the leaves. Springs thus treated will ride much easier and will be entirely free from squeaks. If the graphite is of pure flake variety, it will adhere to the surfaces, rilling up and smoothing over the minute irregularities, and will not squeeze out. |
