Show ATTEMPT ALLEGED TO KILLDETEGTiyE Special to The Tribune. RUPERT, Idaho, May 11. Additional excitement in connection with the conspiracy con-spiracy charges made against eleven prominent men of this city, was aroused today when an alleged attempt was made to kill a detective who has been employed in obtaining evidence in the case. i One of the chief operatives of the Revelare secret service is said to have been the intended victim, and, according accord-ing to reports, he was fired upon by some unidentified person from within a building. The bullet went wide, but ranged dangerously near to Miss Gibson, Gib-son, a reporter for the Pioneer Record of this city. Up to a late hour tonight no arrests had been made, but a representative of the Revelare service has been detailed to make an investigation of the affair by Luke S. May, who is at the head of the service. The maa alleged to havo been fired upon, is on? of the most important im-portant witnesses for the state in the conspiracy cases. The defendants in the ea.ses were to have had their preliminary hearing today, to-day, but the cases were continued until Monday. The charge is made that Prosecuting Attorney W. W. Mattinson stipulated the change of venue without consulting the other attorneys for the prosecution, and this action has caused a rupture. Prosecutor Mattinson was once disqualified in the cases, but the order was rescinded. It is rumored that he will ask that a special prosecutor again be named to take the-cases out of his hands. |
