Show 1918 Outdoor Bike Racing Season Opens Today Dealers' Race Feature of Afternoon; Promising Card Arranged by Manager Crebs; Useful Prizes for Winners in Various Events. THE outdoor bicycle lacing season for 1918 will open this afternoon with a big meet at the Beck 's Hot Springs track. The opening will be known as Bicycle Dealers' day and will be featured with a race in which, bike dealers will compete. Most of the dealers in bikes aiid bike supplies were speoders in their younger days, and many of -them have kept up their work and are just as fast as they ever were. The racing this season, ' as was the rule last season, will be of the amateur class, but now and again some of the professionals will meet in matches or special events. Hating will be under N. C. A. rules and sanction. Albert Crebs, widely and familiarly known as " Musty ' : Crebs, will again be in charge of the Sunday programmes at Beck's. Last season '"Musty" made such a huge success of the enterprise that there was no second choice for manager this year. At the meets last year Crebs reported entry lists running close to 100. His cards were arranged with a view to giving every rider a chance, and his handicapping was so manifestly fair that not a sinele complaint com-plaint was offered. During the 1917 season many a young biker was put in the way of learning the art as it should be learned, and if it were not for the disturbed condition of affairs at this time, no doubt several Salt Lake lads would be in the racing game on the eastern tracks. f;The fact that the racing at Beck 's last year was so highly successful augurs well for the success of the enterprise this season. The youngsters wiio rode in 1917 now have gained another voar in age and added to their st rength,' aud the experience which they had an opportunity op-portunity to get last season will stand them well in hand this season. While it is true that a great manv of the boys who rode last season have joined the national service; most of the vounger ones still remain, and the lads who were m the novice classes last year will be " regular" ri.lers this veaf. Just hov. much the bike racing game has been affected by enlistments will not be definitely def-initely known until a few meets have been run. Tt seems safe to sav however, how-ever, that half a hundred will 'be on hand for the opening races todav. The course is reported to be in excellent excel-lent condition. A week 's work has been put in on the track, with the result that it should be fit for good time this afternoon. No Admission Fee. There will be no charge for admission at any of the meets at Beck's. Fans will find Ccnterville cars convenient The racing begins at 3 o'clock.
