The garden gar-den service of the quartermaster corps has been established. Sounds a bit strange garden service as a branch of the army, but such are the terms of the general order. , This spring every division of the American Amer-ican army will be required to cultivate a certain portion of the area in which it is located. Beets; potatoes, beans, oats, barley, verbena, hops, rye and other vegetables, .will be grown for consumption consump-tion by the men of the divisions which plant them. Experimental gardens are to be established estab-lished at Versailles under the direction of a branch office of the garden service. At the start 100 men will be emplojred in this experimental garden. While in their "rest" billets behind the trenches this summer, American troopers will be employed em-ployed to help the French farmers harvest har-vest their crops. |
