Show EXTENSION PLANS TO SHIP ORE SOON i Pole Star Produces From Winze Below 336-foot Level. Special to The Tribune. GOLD HILL, May ll.Operations at the property of the Western Utah Extension Ex-tension Copper company continue, to afford af-ford the chief topic of conversation in the district as the result of recent disclosures dis-closures in the Helmet mine. Nothing in the way of ore discoveries such as has been made in that mine have been made in any other district for a long time, and when the full importance of the discovery is realized, the growth and development of the Gold Hill-Clifton district dis-trict wil bo accelerated by n.n influx of mining operators and big capital. CrosMcnttiug, drifting and raising iu the Helmet ore body have been continued contin-ued during the week, with the result that additional width of the ore-bearing zone has been disclosed, while the other workings are proving the oro continuous, contin-uous, and giving indication that regular production and shipments that should put the Helmet mine on a paying basis will soon be possible. Inauguration of shipments has been delayed by the ne-. cessity of constructing a bin near the portal of No. 1 tunnel to care for the ore, and to get the three workings in the tunnel under way. Also, negotiations negotia-tions relative to a contract for disposing dispos-ing of the ore are in progress with a smelting company, and until a satisfactory satisfac-tory contract can he made, there is no advantage to be gained by beginning shipments. Before another week, however, how-ever, it is probable shipments will be started, and thereafter will be sent away regularly. At the Mogul shaft the limestone for-mation for-mation was passed through this week, when the shaft entered porphyry which may prove to be filling of the fissure extending to the southwest and northeast. north-east. Sufficient work has not been accomplished ac-complished to determine the matter, but because of the mineralized condition of the porphyry, it is believed that more ore will soon be discovered. The porphyry por-phyry is softer than the limestone, so progress has been more rapid, an additional addi-tional depth of nearly (even feet being gained with some rounds of holes. The shaft is about 300 feet deep, and the management may decide to cut another station at that depth, and drive levels, according to what conditions are found at that depth in the shaft. The face of the 200-foot station, which was cut some time ago, shows strata of high-grade ore, and the indications are that cross-cutting cross-cutting to the east will result in disclosing dis-closing the downward extension of the ore passed through at 165 feet in the shaft. This work may be started in the near future, and the Mogul mine made a regular producer. Andy L. Hurley, until a few. months ago superintendent of the Cardiff mine in the Big Cottonwood mining district, and who developed the $10,000,000 ore body in that property, visited Gold Hill this week iu company with S. P. Snyder, Sny-der, formerly superintendent for the Western Utah Extension Copper company com-pany in this district. They visited the Helmet mine of the Extension company, and .were greatly pleased with the .wonderful .won-derful showing of ore that is being opened in No. 1 tunnel. Mr. Hurley visited several other properties in the district, and may decide de-cide to become financially interested in one of them that is still in the prospect pros-pect stage, but which bears earmarks of a big mine, wheu properly developed. He plans a return trip here within a couple of weeks. At the Pole Star Copper company property production of ore is being made from the winze sunk .below the 336-south level of. the Victor shaft, and a drift to the south is being driven following the first vein of ore intersected inter-sected by the level. Work in the west crosscut from the 33ti-south, and in the east crosscut from the 336-south levels has been suspended during part of the last week on account of a breakdown of the compressor, which was unavoidable. |
