"Conservation of gasoline is a matter of profound importance to the government i authorities at the present time, and it is a matter in which all automobile and motorcycle drivers are interested as well. A demonstration wherein it can be shown that any type of gasoline propelled vehicle ve-hicle will under ordinary conditions and consistent performance secure large mileage mile-age will no doubt have considerable weight in withholding drastic action by the government to control gasoline consumption. con-sumption. "It is noteworthy that because of its economy in gasoline consupmtion and general upkeep cost the Harley-Davidson motorcycle is coming into more general use for messenger service light delivery work, ordinary travel and touring. Facts in regard to these economical features of the motorcycle are not generally known, and one purpose tn holding the forthcoming forth-coming gasoline economy trials is to establish es-tablish definite data covering economy and fix the facts in the public mind. Continued freedom in gasoline consumption consump-tion depends upon intelligent conservation conserva-tion by all users, in spite of stories sent out by interested parties that production is normal and no shortage is in sight. "It is probable that some spectacular records will be made in the national gasoline conservation trials, but any effort ef-fort to make records at the expense of consistency in performance will be forestalled fore-stalled by the enforcement of the very rigid rules governing equipment. The machines in . all classes must be absolutely abso-lutely stock models," |
