Shinn sacrificed and then Brief hit to third, which ball George let get by and Tommy counted. Brief advanced to second on a passed ball and came across on Litschi's wide throw of Ryan 's hopper. Gedeon and Orr went out. Tn the second the Oaks started their cannonading, getting seven. Gedeon doubled and Orr walked with Burns pitching. Hallinan was also passed and Hannah 's long single along the left field foul line sent Gedeon and Orr over the pan. Hannah went to second, and on the throw to get Truck, Guest foozled the ball and Litschi Lits-chi picked the pill up and threw home too wide for Kuhn to get, letting Hallinan Halli-nan in. Peterson's sacrifice put Hannah Han-nah on third, whence he counted on Shinn 's hit after Quinlan had fouled out to the catcher. Brief .beat out a bunt putting Buddy Ryan up for the ser-ond time, Burns forced him to fly to Middleton. Salt Lake "got its winning run across in the tenth. Shinn led off with a walk. Brief popped to Guest, Ryan cracked a safe one to right, advancing Jimmy a sack. At this point Burns was yanked and Gedeon singled to the hifield. Orr picked a nice one, which rTe sent on a line over Johnston s head, counting Shinn. Salt Lake stepped out in front in the first inning of the second game. Shinn singled, but was out trying to stretch. Middleton dropped Orr 's flv and caught Brief's. Ryan bit to Gardner, Gard-ner, who slung the ball away. That put two on and both scored on Gedeon Ged-eon 's double. Zacher's single scored Gedeon. The Oaks took one in the second when Tobin drew a walk, went to second sec-ond on Gardner's hit and scored on Litschi s double. Palt Lake got that one back in their half on singles in succession by Shinn, Orr and Brief. These batting activities occurred after Burns had fanned the first two men. Johnston's homer in the third gave the Oaks their second tally, which also proved to be the last of the game. The clubs will play again at 3 o'clock this afternoon. |
