Show FRIENDS OF PEACE WILL MEET TODAY Convention In Chicago Will Protest Against Shipments of Munitions of War. CHICAGO, Sept. 4. A resolution declaring de-claring against the .shipment of war munitions mu-nitions from this country to European belligerents and urging congress to buy up all munitions factories, so as to make shipments Impossible, will be brought before be-fore the national convention of the Friends of Peace, which will be opened here tomorrow. Hundreds of delegates arrived tonight and more are expected tomorrow. A big" majority are German-Americans, said Chairman John Brisbane Walker. "The organization Is not pro-German, though," he added. "Germans naturally want to see the war ended, because of the fearful sacrifice It exacts from their brothers. German-Americans exceed in number any other portion of our citizenH who are of foreign t blood. That is why they predominate in this convention." It was announced tonight that William J. Bryan will address the convention Monday afternoon and probably will speak also at a mass meeting in the evening. Dr. "Washington Gladden will be another an-other speaker Monday afternoon. |
