FOET SN"ELLIN"Cr, llinn., Sept. 4 In one of the most spectacular and closest clos-est finishes ever witnessed at the end of a 500-mile motor race, Earl Cooper of Los Angeles today won the first motor derby over the new Twin City speedway. speed-way. Cooper was less than one second ahead of his teammate, Gil Anderson, of Indianapolis, who finished second. The official time of the two crurs was: Cooper, Coop-er, 5 hours 47 minutes and 29 seconds: Anderson, 5 hours 47 minutes and 30 i seconds. Cooper's average speed for the race was 80.35 miles per hour. ; Eddie O'Donnell, who was mere than thirty miles behind the leaders, finished I third. O'Donnell's time was 6 hours 20 minutes 25 seconds. Divide $50,000. By his victory, Cooper, who drove an American car, 'won $20,000; Anderson won $10,000: O'Donnell, $4500 and the remainder of $50,000 was divided proportionately pro-portionately among other drivers to complete com-plete the Jong grind. Tom Alley finished fin-ished fourth iu the race. His time was b' hours 24 minutes and 44 seconds. Cooper, who drove an exceedingly well-indeed race, tens relieved for lis miles by John Aitkin of Indianapolis. Anderson also was relieved for a snorter snort-er distnnce by Tom Rooney of Indianapolis. In-dianapolis. Drivers declared that conditions of th Chicago and Indianapolis courses were greatly superior to those of the Snelling course's and that the rough parts made record time impossible. Many Drop Out.
