Show KILLED BY TRAIN rutland vt aug 14 deputy police commissioner harris of new york city and miss elizabeth P willing of chicago were almost instantly killed at pikes crossing near bennington vt this afternoon when a north branch train on the rutland railroad struck the automobile in which they were traveling bliss wll lings nephew ambrose cramer and the chauffeur J adamson were thrown out and badly bruised and cut but were not seriously injured the engine was thrown about 16 feet and the tracks were torn up for one nun died feet the automobile was dashed to pieces and afterward was destroyed by fire miss willing and mr lindsley were to have been married next week the injured were removed to the hospital at the soldiers home and were resting comfortably tonight the accident occurred shortly after four this afternoon as the party were traveling up a steep grada leading over the crossing mr und sley and miss willing occupied the rear seat of the car a big touring machine the boy and tho chaffeur were in the front there Is a curve near the crossing and adamson stated that he did not see me train until it was upon them engineer and the fireman mangan makes chef same statement the lender struck the rear of the automobile which was thrown about sixty feet tho locomotive left the rails and sloughed ploughed hed over the sleepers tor nearly one hundred feet endsley was killed instantly and miss willing survived the accident but a few minutes miss willing and mr lindsley were to have been married next week the former was about 28 years of age a granddaughter grand daughter of former governor mark skinner of this state and the daughter of mrs willing who gave the mark skinner library to the town of manchester victims were engaged chicago aug 14 miss evelyn P willing who was killed near dennington vt was a daughter of the late henry J willing who was a partner of marshall field tor many years and was one of Chi cagos wealthy men both mr willing and his wife died some years aga and miss willing and her brother mark S willing resided in the mansion at rush street miss willing who was prominent la society spent most of th winter and early part of this year la new york returning early in july the announcement of her engagement to harris lindsley of new york was a surprise to the fashionable set in chicago no definite tor the wedding had been arranged miss willing left hero for chicago july 29 to make a motor tour of the east with mr lindsley and other friends |
