Persons who wish to reduce their dietary exposure to pesticides are urged to follow this advice from the EPA: Thoroughly rinse and scrub (with a brush, if possible) fruits and ! vegetables. Peel them, if appropri-jate appropri-jate though some nutrients will be ; peeled away. L- Trim the fat from the meat and jyltry and also remove the skin (which contains most of the fat) from poultry and fish. Discard fats and oils in broths and pan drippings. drip-pings. Poultry and livestock feed sometimes carry pesticide residue which concentrates in the animals' fat. To decrease the animal fat in stew, soup, chili, broths, and pan drippings either homemade or "store bought" chill the mixture after cooking or heating. The fat will congeal on top and you can skim it off. Besides reducing pesticide pesti-cide residue, you will also save a lot of calories. |
